Persuasive Writing W2 T3 - Social media affects our happiness for the worse

This week for writing we were assigned the task to write a three paragraph persuasive text. We had a list of statements to write our persuasive text about. I chose the statement 'Social media affects our happiness for the worse'.

Below is my writing

Social media impacts our happiness for the worse.

Social media can take many forms such as applications, websites etc. Social media is a way to share/create content, contact friends and family, sometimes even strangers. While I agree that social media can boost other’s confidence and help others to stay in contact with their loved ones, I also think that social media is one of the main causes of terrible mental health. Social media can lead to lowering people’s self esteem, fear of missing out, isolation, depression, anxiety and cyberbullying.

Research shows that heavy use of social media can increase the risk of depression, anxiety, loneliness etc. Heavy use of social media can also lead to terrible mental habits including self harm. Some people resort to using social media when they feel awkward, lonely, anxious, others use social media as a ‘blanket’ to hide away and disregard the current situation they’re in. Overuse of social media can damage academic performance, disrupt or affect sleep which is associated with not only mental but physical health.

Spending more than 3 hours on social media puts people at a higher risk of mental health problems. Statistical research shows that 13% 12-17 are reported to have depression and 32% are reported to have anxiety. To prevent this from happening I believe that limiting time on social media, when an account or accounts is causing trouble or creating negative tension between you or someone online then unfollowing or reporting would help.

In conclusion I strongly believe that heavy use of social media can affect anyone’s happiness negatively if over used.

What would you write a persuasive piece about?

Math W9 T2-Geometry & Measurement/2D & 3D Shapes

This week for Math we studied 2D & 3D shapes. We studied their faces/surfaces, vertices/corners, and edges/sides. Our task was to cut out the shape nets handed to us and put the net together to form a 3D shape and name the number of faces/surfaces, vertices/corners, and edges/sides.

What's something new you learned from my work? And what's your favourite 3D shape?

Math W9 T1-Recflection, Translation, Enlargement and Rotation

This week for math we have been focusing on 4 things Reflection, Rotation, Enlargement and Translation. Reflection is a mirrored image of a object/shape. Rotation is where you rotate a object/shape. Enlargement is where you enlarge or reduce a object/shape. Translation is where you move a object/shape higher or to the side. Our task was to create a kowhaiwhai and use Recflection, Translation, Enlargement and Rotation on it.

Have you ever used Recflection, Translation, Enlargement and Rotation in your work before?
